Sporting opportunities for all
Sport is integral to the everyday life of St Philip's, and every boy has plenty of opportunity to play a wide variety of games throughout every term.
The major sports are football in the Michaelmas Term, rugby in the Lent Term and cricket in the Summer Term.
We rely on all our boys to represent the school in competition against other schools. This one-for-all and all-for-one approach is central to the ethos of the school - it brings our boys together, builds confidence and instils a rich vein of team spirit that runs deep throughout the school.

We have 30 acres of high-quality games fields located by the River Thames in Barnes. In fact, it was at Barn Elms - the home of St Philip's sport - that the first game of football under Football Association rules was played in 1863.

A full card of fixtures against rival schools in all sports are keenly awaited and contested with fixtures against countryside rivals Sunningdale School in Berkshire a particular treat.
It is a distinctive feature of the school that all boys are required to deliver a match report to the whole school in assembly regardless of victory, defeat, or deluges of rain.
Fully refurbished in 2013, facilities available at Barn Elms include:

-
several professionally kept football pitches
-
several professionally kept rugby pitches
-
two covered grass wickets
-
four high quality cricket nets
-
a specialist under-soil drainage system
-
a tartan athletics track, relayed in 2023
-
several tennis courts
-
a pavilion with function room and changing facilities
-
dedicated full-time grounds staff
